I really like this picture, the way the tranquility and aloofness of the unicorn mix with the ferocity of a lion in accentuating the mane, the hindleg musculature and the chest. It makes for a very cool, very impressive animal.
However, I take issue with the motion implied in the brushstrokes and the lack thereof of in the mane ornaments. With the raised foreleg, you'd think that the mane would sway accordingly, unless the jewerly was incredibly heavy.
Since the rest of the creature is rather faded and blurred, the braid amulets seem to stand out far more than they should, as if they were layered on top with a copy/paste job. Perhaps if you simply faded the coloring and toned down the boldness of the gold, the composition would be more fitting overall.
It is a fantastic piece, however, I feel that the jewelery is jarring which takes attention from the unicorn's horn and mane which I feel are the highlights. But as a mount, I find the unicorn to be lacking, for the exaggerated anatomy looks a little difficult to navigate, and the assumed position on the saddle would sit awkwardly.
Perhaps the mood of this piece lends itself more to the stoicism and standoffishness of a mountain goat/ram, rather than a steed.
When I have always thought of unicorns to things come to mind. Legend and and how lame they look. But this one is fuckin sweet. I can honsetly say this is the first badass unicorn I have ever seen. well done my friend!!!
